Storing and Organizing Ammo
If you’re into shooting, you likely have at least a handful of boxes of ammo lying around. I’m not going to tell you how many I have, but if you follow me on Instagram, you know we order by the case.
AMMO STORAGE
This means we need to store it properly so that when it comes time to shoot, it’s still in good shape. Yes, ammo can “go bad” if stored improperly, so here’s what you need to know:
Tight seal: Keep your ammo in the original package or transfer to ammo cans that stay sealed. More on that in a minute.
Moisture is BAD: Store your ammo in a cool, dry place. If you live in a humid climate, consider using something to dehumidify your storage area.
Heat is also BAD: Don’t store your ammo, or your range bag, or your guns for that matter, in your vehicle.
AMMO ORGANIZATION
Ok, now for the fun part.
There’s little in life that gives me the immense pleasure I feel from organizing literally anything in my house.
A few years ago, I tackled our gun gear and have some good systems going.
We have a lot of different ammo - pistol, rifle, shotgun. Multiple calibers and loads. Different uses - defensive and range.
Getting all of it organized makes it easy to quickly catalog what’s on hand and what needs to be ordered. It also makes grabbing rounds for range day a breeze.
I’ve used these plastic stacking ammo crates for 4 years, and they’ve held up really well. They’re affordable, they hold a lot, and they stack to save space.
I used my label maker to label them on top, so it’s easy to see. We also decided to flatten one empty box and put it on top, so we know the brand, just in case.
Whether you’re drowning in boxes of ammo or just starting your collection, this system will work.
Treat yourself to one or three and get your ammo organized.
